Week 3

I can't believe that we are finishing our third week of school! I have had such a great time getting to know all of the kids! Their smiles and excitement for life is so refreshing. There's nothin like having a child come and tell a story and have their eyes just light up! I have several of those...one regularly would tell us her mom was going to have her baby brother and that she was going I help hold him and rock him. Another has a story for everything! They are all so anxious to answer when I ask a question, and it's really amazing to see how their little brains work. Most of the time I am surprised at what comes out if their mouth! I just want to share a few pictures from this week.

This is a poem we learned and we used each of their names. It was great for having them recognize their names.

The kids love when our helper, Mrs. A., helps them do a puzzle or other center activity.

At center time, it is really fun to see what each child chooses to play with and what things they imagine. :)

We learned that L is also for lamp.

We also practiced hanging laundry! Great for small motor skills!

I haven't had a chance to post pictures yet...our Bible story for the week is Noah's Ark. We made adorable little arks on Tuesday that I will get posted this weekend! They LOVED listing animals on the ark and our snack was animal crackers (not necessarily on purpose!) which really tied it together with our art project!

Well, it is late. I have lots to do tomorrow. I see "my kids" in the morning, have a lunch date, puppy to the vet, and my sister's tennis match. Goodnight all!

I'm Back!!

That's right...I am finally back! I went on a little mini vacation with my husband for Labor Day weekend with some friends. This is my husband and I out on the water.
We spent 2 full days out on the boat, fishing and catching some sun! Here's the biggest fish of the weekend, caught by us girls!
We also got to see a really neat lighthouse that helps the freighters find the Bay channel. It was really cold.

Now, on to the first week of school. We have been busy in preschool. The first day was a VERY hectic day! I was so overwhelmed by the first day...collecting state forms, matching parents to children, making sure all wash hands immediately (thank you, YoungStar program!), and avoiding separation anxiety. It was a wonderfully, chaotic day! So chaotic in fact, that I didn't even take any pictures! That was Tuesday.

Our second day of school was on Thursday of last week. I loved seeing the kids again! They all came in smiling and ready for another day! We haven't had any major meltdowns (yet!). The kids are learning the letter Ll for the first couple days of school. In honor of the letter L, we made roaring "L" lions! Here are a couple...
(I still don't know how to turn pictures...if you know, help!)

We also had a morning message and calendar time. The kids are doing a great job with the calendar time, we just go through and say the month several times, then the day, then we say the day, month, date several times. It is still pretty abstract to them, but we will learn more about our calendar later. Here are some pictures.

I am super proud of my birthday bulletin board! I love the cute birthday charts but always like to do a little more. I happened to have another birthday set handy so I combined them and came up with this!

Finally, we did a fun little song. I got the idea from another blogger. Unfortunately, I can't find the original source as of right now. I will post credit as soon as I find it again! Click this to go to a similar link. We created the "Apple Man" with felt and sang "Do You Know the Apple Man?" (to the tune of "Do You Know the Muffin Man?"). Here is our Apple Man:

They did such a good job!! And I had so much fun singing this song with them!

That's all for now. I will post more later about this week and the adorable lamps that we made!! I forgot to take pictures, so I will put those up tomorrow!
